Power to the people edition

March at INCLUDED is dedicated to March Film Month. A month where we pay attention to unsung themes, important conversations, and inspiring filmmakers. Central themes include Gender, Black Resistance and Queerness. Film Month is programmed as part of Inclusion Month at RUAS.

See below which films are playing during INCLUDED Film Month

Maxi - Pad | 13 March 19:00 - 20:30h | Auditorium WDKA

"Maxi-Pad" is a short documentary by Julia de Roo about Max. A young non-binary person who was born in a female body but struggles to connect with femininity. In this film, Max searches for ways to express femininity by experimenting with drag. We follow Max in the both euphoric and emotionally challenging transformation process from Max to drag-personality Maxi-Pad, and from Maxi-Pad back to the everyday Max.

Go Back and Get It | 23 March 17:00 - 19:30h | Museumpark - MP.H01.093

Black Lives Matter turned the whole world upside down in 2020. But have the protests actually been a tipping point for positive change? Clarice Gargard travels through time and space and speaks to everyday resistance fighters in the Netherlands, Suriname and Curaçao about the present, past and future of black resistance. How do you create the tipping points that bring about change? With among others André Reeder (former LOSON member), Jeanne Henriquez (Tula Museum Curaçao), Lulu Helder (anti-black Pete protest), Malique Mohamud (writer, researcher, artist).

Aftercare | 27 March 17:00 - 19:00h | Museumpark - MP.H01.093

What does queer acceptance look like? Is it enough to accept a child as queer? Where does education begin and what is best to discover for yourself? And what knowledge is needed to find out what it means to be queer? “Aftercare” is a self-directed and filmed family portrait that aims to show how children are often not supported by their parents in finding out what it means to be queer, despite being accepted. This short documentation centres on two of Mauk van Emmerik's interviews with his parents, helping them understand his queer perspective in this heteronormative world.

Closing panel | 30 maart 17:00 - 20:00 uur | Atrium Museumpark

We will conclude 'Inclusion Month' with a candid panel discussion. Students and RUAS staff are cordially invited to contribute. Find out what the current state of diversity and inclusion is. What questions do you have? What is going well? And what could be better? Engage in a conversation with the panel consisting of management, teachers, and students. Inclusion is about connecting. So is food! We will therefore conclude with a delicious dinner with food from different cultures. Will we see you there?
